The rankings of American cities are out from the Milken Institute regarding their economic growth and vitality. Take a close look at this list, particularly the top ten, and the bottom ten. Ask yourself:
1. What is it about these cities that earned their rankings?
2. What role did government intervention play in the ranking?
3. What role did labor play? Was labor allowed to be competitive, or not?
4. What is the tax burden of the residents? Is it likely to increase or decrease?
5. Regarding the bottom ten, why are these cities rapidly becoming ghost towns?
Draw your own conclusions. However if your answer is "The government has not intervened enough" regarding the bottom ten, compare their tax rates, federal aid received, average age, and birth rates to the top ten. You might be surprised.
